Wartain com – A pleasant surprise awaits residents of Selabintana, specifically in Sudajayagirang Village, Sukabumi Regency. A Muslim tourism mosque is set to be built in September 2026, funded by donors from Qatar in the Middle East.
“The story behind the plan to build this Muslim tourism mosque in Selabintana Wetan has been a long journey,” said Edi Juarsah, the Head of Sudajayagirang Village, when speaking to the media in his office last Monday (September 14, 2026).
A Long Journey from Proposal to Qatari Donors
Edi explained that since early 2026, the village government and community leaders, including Aang Dr. H. Unang Sudarma, S.H., M.Si., Chairman of BAZNAS Sukabumi Regency, have been planning a proper Jami mosque for Selabintana Wetan Hamlet.
“While the Muslim population in the area is growing, we previously lacked adequate worship facilities or a representative mosque,” he said.
The village had prepared a proposal to build the mosque on land owned by KUD Makmur. Although funds had not yet been raised, their persistence paid off three months ago.
“We met a volunteer named Abah Hamzah, a senior journalist with the Sukabumi Regency chapter of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) who offered to help. He took the proposal to H. Cecep, who has strong connections with Sultans and businesspeople in Qatar and Mecca. To facilitate this, Abah Hamzah was assisted by Dedy, Iwan, and Jamal,” Edi recounted.
Verifier from Qatar Inspects the Site
H. Cecep then traveled to Mecca and Qatar to personally submit the proposal. “Frankly, it was only because of my close relationship with them that I dared to request aid. I submitted the request in a personal capacity and convinced them that the Muslim population in Selabintana was disproportionately large compared to existing places of worship,” he said.
The donors responded positively. Their aid, which previously focused on Palestine and Africa, will now come from their own business earnings, specifically allocated from Zakat Fisabilillah.
To ensure the process, they dispatched Abed S. Baghazal, a verifier from Qatar, who visited the construction site in Selabintana Wetan in person wearing a white cap.
1,000 sqm of Waqf Land Provided by KUD Makmur
Dr. H. Unang Sudarma, S.H., M.Si., Chairman of KUD Makmur, stated that the land for the mosque came from KUD Makmur’s holdings. A 1,000-square-meter plot was designated as waqf for the Sudajayagirang Village Government, and an 800-square-meter plot was gifted to the administrators of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative.
“We formalized the transfer of this waqf and gifted land during an Extraordinary General Meeting held last May, attended by all relevant parties and local residents,” he stated.
The mosque to be built on the endowed land will have a footprint of 20 meters by 30 meters.
“We are deeply grateful for the construction of a proper, well-designed mosque in this tourist area. It is hoped that this facility will benefit not only local residents but also the tourists visiting Selabintana,” Unang added.
